Ras Al Khaimah is the fourth largest Emirate in terms of area and population of the UAE. It is about 2,478 square kilometers and this area is 3.16% of the total area of the United Arab Emirates. Ras Al Khaimah has a distinct geographical and natural location, where its sea coast is relatively long, making it as a Center for maritime and commercial activities across the continent since ancient times; it has good mountain ranges, in addition to an area of desert and agricultural meadow areas. Among the United Arab Emirates, Ras Al Khaimah has a unique heritage and a full and clear historical background in its archaeology, it contains a combination of four types of terrain, which can be found in the United Arab Emirates: rich plain, the mountains, coastal zone and the desert environment; it is one of the reasons why Ras Al Khaimah is an important area and always populated. The interaction between these different regions and the individual lifestyle form the heritage of Ras Al Khaimah. Ras Al Khaimah with its rugged mountains bordering Oman is also an archeologically significant place. Investigations in the recent past have revealed that the human habitation in this region can be traced back to the 3rd millennium BC. All discoveries have shown that Ras Al Khaimah has enormous history. |
